Drop Down Menus

What's the general rule for drop down menus? How many levels are considered OK to drop down to before it gets out of hand?

Going from standard interface design in programming I would say two is the most you would want to use. If absolutely unavoidable you can go three. More than that and you will lose users. Its better to make longer menus or move a sub-menu up a level instead of making the system to complicated.
