hey bwas, i have a community website for me and my mates to keep in touch while at uni.
it is currently just a message board but i would like to be able to have my users login b4 entering the page and also have a display on the page that tells u who is on the page at anytime...
i have searched hi and lo for something that will let me do this with noluck, any anyone point me in the right direction?
You might be able to find something like that at cgi-resources.com or you could pay somebody to write it for you ( a good place to find coders is elance.com ) or you could learn a scripting language (ie perl, php, asp) and write some code of your own.
With Cookies and ASP it would be easy to do. ASP automatically assigns a session ID to a user when they visit a page that can be used to track them through a website or tell how many users are online at any given time. You would just need to expand on this to include name and other information you want.
