The buttons work as I presume that they are what you want to push users towards. I straight away had a quick click on them to see what they did.
I think the colours work really well and stick with the black BG and red text! It is perfect fo gambling and casinos. I am also a little bemeaused by the large horizontal bar running under the top banner and above the sponsors banner. Surely a bit of a waste of space? Losing that would move the information area up onto the page proper without scrolling in standard monitors.

The design over all is great. The bar just above the leaderboard space is too big. Decrease their height by 10/15 pixels.

The red links on the left nav definitely need to be changed to a brighter color. Perhaps white or yellow?

Just wanted to thank everyone for your input ... I've put this on hold for a little while but when we start up again in a month or so I'll make some changes. Really helpful stuff folks! Thanks!

I like the Vegas feeling the site gives. As you say, it should be a little busy. I don't think web 2.0 design would suit this type of site.
There is just one thing that (really) irritates me. The top banner graphic where it says "the gaming advisor (logo)" is way too big, same with that grey horisontal line beneath it. There are only two links in this area but together with the ads it is taking up 50% of my 1024 screen. The content is less than half the page. Please change that, your site will be a lot better.
Link text in vertical menu is hard to read. Needs different shade of red or color.
Good luck!

I've seen much busier websites, this one didn't seem too bad. Although it might have been revised since it was first posted.
I like the colors you used if you are going for the dark look. It sets an evening setting which is good for a poker site.
