    invision power board license

If i buy a website that has an invision power board forum on it, will I also have to buy a license for it? The owner said he wasn't aware of any licensing issues and said he got the forum before the sold licenses.

So can i just transfer the files and set everything up? or will I have to buy the license?

You need to have a license, if the owner said he wasn't aware of any licencing issues, it's most likely an illegal board.

Could be an older IPB board, what is the version for the IPB there? I think from version 2 licensing was started; anything older is the free version of the board.

If it is an older free version you will need to buy a licence if you want to upgrade to the latest version. Older versions tend to become insecure after aperiod of time - IPB has had some security issues recently so it's worth checking.
