When you visit that URL, a cookie is placed on your computer with the ID of the affiliate (you), then you are redirected to the advertiser site. On the 'thank you' page of the checkout or signup process of the advertiser's site is a snippet of cj.com tracking code. When the visitor arrives at this page, that code both records the lead or sale, and also reads the affiliate ID from the cookie, associating the lead or sale with that affiliate.
