    win 98 start menu settings

ok ppl, in win 2k you have start menu settings options.

    in win 98 you don't

    ...

my dad who has win 98 doesn't want his programs menu to scroll, he wants it to cascade. Where does he change this? We looked in the reg and couldn't find anything.

    thanks!!

There is no option in Win98, they removed it after Win95 and then noticed that it was a bad move, so they put it back after.

There are programs that will allow you to override this. The best I know is called Xteq X-Setup and is available free for download at their site.

The program does a whole bunch of other stuff too but you'll find what you need under the "Appearance>Start Menu>Options>Display Options" tab. Just click on "Show Start->Programs using multiple columns", apply the changes and you're set!

That's weird, it worked for me and everyone else that I know who tried it.

You can try editing the registry directly. TechTV has a good article that explains how to do this.

In case you don't understand that one, Annyances.org explains it slightly differently.

There's a registry hack to do it. Do a search on ZDnet in their Windows 98 tips and tricks.
