    Installing Office XP

I've been trying to install Office XP for the last week but am having no luck. It gets through the initial stages of the installation on Disc 1 and then I get an error message saying something about my version of Internet Explorer 5 isn't compatible, or something similar.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

What platform are you installing to? I put XP on Win2k and it was absolutely fine.

Perhaps if it is unhappy about IE5 try upgrading to IE6?

Any other specs or details that might help us figure it out?

Doh! I'm running on Windows 98. I thought about upgrading to IE6, but I've heard so many bad things about it I wasn't sure if that was a good idea.

If it's your last resort, install IE 6! Really, I haven't had a single problem with it - don't be afraid.

I went ahead and tried downloading IE6 but it won't download for me. I get a page that displays a broken image of the QuickTime logo.

Where'd you try to download it from? I usually use Download.com.

Directly from Microsoft, I'll try Download.com and get back to you...

Edit: I tried Download.com, yet I'm still getting the broken QuickTime image.

Do you have a screenshot of the error? That is very strange... I have never encountered it. Maybe you need to update your QuickTime - that's the logo being displayed. When's the last time you checked for updates at WindowsUpdate?

Nothing bad about IE6? I heard it automatically resizes an image if it doesn't fit in the window 100%?!

There is an image resize function but you can turn it off

And a little icon popups when you mouseover the resized image that allows you to put it back to its regular size.
