All NY airports are closed, the estimate is that up to 350 people were on board the Boeing! I am watching it right now it is frightening. You want to see the smoke, that is all we can see at the moment - smoke everywhere.

Flight 587 headed to Santa Domingo... It was an AirBus 300.

I can't believe this! It crashed in a residential section... there were in the upwards of 300 people on the plane!

Jeremy, you might want to try CNN but I doubt you will be able to visit it, after 15 minutes of loading I still haven't been able to connect to it. Currently I am watching CNN in my office.

And I doubt it it's engine failure, that's a too big coinsidence.

An eye witness said it was an explosion near the junction of the right wing and the fuselodge... They're saying now that was also a baggage area.

There was aparently a helicopter nearby when it happened. The witness said the helicopter was VERY close to the airplane when it apparently went down!

Some people asked the Pentagon if there was any possibility that they shot it down?!? They denied it for now.

quote from cnn.... its extremely laggy, they need more damn servers!!

NEW YORK (CNN) -- An American Airlines jet crashed Monday on takeoff from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The plane went down in the Rockways section of the New York City borough of Queens.

CNN confirmed the plane was American Airlines Flight 587 from New York to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The plane was a Boeing Airbus A300. American Airlines did not immediately release the number of passengers on the flight. The A300 can accommodate up to 266 passengers, according to Boeing's Web site

At least four houses were on fire, and a huge plume of smoke could be seen rising from the site.

All three New York City-area airports -- Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark -- closed after the crash. Mayor Rudy Giuliani declared a Level One emergency, mobilizing all available police, fire and emergency personnel.
