Could you just make the frame width 0. I forget if you can do that in JS. That wouldn't require a refresh and would offer the same affect. As long as you don't use borders. Let me go try it

I tried. I couldn't get it to work without a refresh of some sorts. I am interested in this though, even though I never use frames. I am not sure if to col(200,*) attributes are even write. I think they may be readonly.

To tell you what I tried. I did an onclick call (this is like the second thing I tried) that rewrote the existing frameset. This worked but caused a rewrite.

I also tried adjusting just the col width but that was useless. Anyways I think I have see this done somewhere.

I don't have any code without a refresh sorry. As for rewriting the code into your top frame it still causes a refresh. I am not even sure where the other code was. Like I had said I thought I had seen it. However this is something like using the write() method. I think no matter what you do there will be some sort of rewrite.

What about using a dhtml layering of some sorts. Depending on what browsers you are focusing on you could have and Iframe within a layer. You adjust the size of the layer to 0 width. Otherwise. I don't think it can be done. My book doesn't cover adjusting frame sizes at all from an external command.
