Missing Drivers

Ok, im not the best computer expert here, i know my stuff and then other things i just havent got a clue. I formatted my computer today and ive tried to install all my drivers that are currently missing - however i still find myself short. So i was wondering if somebody could help me out.

On the Device Manager it shows these drivers missing:

PCI Simple Communications Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatatible)

My motherboard is a 'ASROCK K7VT4A+ '

And ive been on the Asrock website to download some drivers but like i say im still left with the 4 above - can someone please help!

Is the video card on the mother board or is it a PCI/AGP mother board. If it is the latter, you will need to read the motherboard to get the brand.

Also have you tried going to the PC manufacturer's website?

Ive always had my computers built for me. I was going to phone the man who built it for me but hes pretty busy at the moment so i thought id have a go at solving th eproblem myself!

From what I see you do not have onboard video, therefore you will nee to examine the video card for brand/model and then get the drivers from the appropriate site. The PCI Simple Communications Controller is most likely your modem, again, take a peek at the card to determine brand/model for drivers. I suspect, the reason you are seeing the USB controller is because they are USB 2.0. If you installed XP, did you install SP2? If not, you might want to try that to see if that cures that issue. If you did, you will somehow need to get the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

Thankyou Keriam - that helps me out a little. No i didnt install SP2, I will get a copy of it then see what i can do. You say i should look for my modem and my video card, without sounding stupid can you tell me what sort of thing im looking for once i open the computer up?

like were about it will be sort of thing?

Basically, the video card will be the one that has the plug that the monitor connects to (generally blue around the pins) and the modem will be the one that has a phone cord plug (or two) on it when you look at the back of the computer.

i have my computer open and the 2 parts you have told me to look at dont seem to have any names on - they have stickers with numbers and thats about it!

You may have to pull them out to see both sides of the card well as the brand is often scribed onto the card just like the circuits are. If all you can find are those stickers, try googling them. They may be model numbers that you can find on a search.

Yes, well.... what you have identified is the memory on the video card, not the card itself. Look at the card very closely and see if you can't find something like ATI, Radeon, S3, nVidia or something printed on the card just like the printed circuits.

Ok - Ive just taken it out at this is what ive found on the actual board apart from what ive already stated..

Kortak
MSI
APCB M6 94V-0

Micro-Star
MS-8952

Any of that make any sence to you?

Yes... you have an MSI (Micro-Star) model MS-8952 video card. It uses an ATI Radeon 9250 chipset. So you should be able to go to the ATI site (here), select Drivers & Software, choose the appropriate OS and just follow the directions from there to get some drivers installed.

i dont mean to sound stupid mate but im looking for the actual name of the driver 'MSI (Micro-Star) model MS-8952' - am i looking for the wrong thing?

In a word - yes. You look for the chipset and OS combo that you have. For example, if you have XP, you choose Drivers & Software > Windows XP > Windows XP Drivers and Software > RADEON > Catalyst 6.5 Windows XP - Driver Download

Wow! Blast from the past!

Kortak makes connectors - memory sockets, I/O ports, etc. They do not make video cards that I am aware of.

Run dxdiag and then go to the display tab. It will give you the display card info so you can then find the correct drivers.

Example:

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 8500 GT
