Garbled code in mailto link ?

When creating a mailto link and you would like the user to complete after certain words in the email, how do you make the spaces please ?

For example, in html for the email, it might say :

First name:     

Last name:     

Now, in IE6, all comes up ok when clicking the mailto link, but when viewed in FF, it looks like :

First name: ÂÂÂÂ

Last name: ÂÂÂÂ

I have Googled and searched this excellent site, but see no reference to this.

Can anyone help please ?

It looks like something to do with different character encodings. Instead of using the entity   try using the unicode decimal
