    directory and SEO

I thinking about starting a directory. what is the best way to get all pages indexed? Also, I know one technique for starting a site is to get your site listed on other directories, about 150 of them. Is this still a viable way of doing it or is there a more effective step that I dont know about? Any advice regarding SEO for directories would be appreciated.

SEO for a directory won't be much different from SEO for any other site. The seo faw can give some useful info on this. It might also clear up myths like having to list your site in 150 directories before you get any results

First of all, and the most important regarding directories: you should link only to quality sites from your directory, or it will be ignored by google.

Getting listed in directories (quality ones like DMOZ, your Yellow Pages, reputable biz directories) is valuable. Unfortunately it seems a lot of directories have been designed to lure you to list, then sell off your address to spammers.

    Not ideal!

Moral: Don't be in too much of a rush to get listed in 150 directories. Pick your targets with care.

That's why I use a throw away email address when I submit to directories.

Some directory scripts have a built in feature to submit a google sitemap and yahoo sitemap. Getting your pages listed should be similar to promoting any other site. If your site uses good on page optimization, and has some quality links pointing to it, you should get your pages listed.
