sending data from popup window to parent window

can this be achieved?

the main thing i want is on the parent window i want to have the add item button which on click will have a popup opened with the item records. on selecting one of the record i want the popup closed and after closing the popup i want the table row to be created in the parent and then the record displayed in the cells of the that particular row .

and if the second record is selected then the new record will be displayed in the new row and so on.
