    ASP Index Page

While working on a new website, I created a temporary homepage that has a short note about the site being under construction. It is an html page. Meanwhile, the permanent index page is an asp page so I called it index.asp. Now that I'm ready to go live, how will the server recognize that index.asp should be displayed when people type the domain name into their browser address? If I delete index.html will index.asp automatically be displayed?

    Hmmmm

If your host is setup to recognize index.asp, then yes.....

Servers that are ASP capable are normally setup to recognise index.asp or default.asp as the index page. You should be fine

    1. rename index.html to index2.html
    2. go to your domain
    3. if everything works you're fine

In IIS, there is an order of default page names. The first name with a page found is what will show as the default page. The order can be modified by the host. If you truely want to use a specific ASP page as the index page, name it "default.asp", and make sure no other pages named "default" or "index" are in the same folder.
