Mouse Rollover without Java

Is it possible to have text change colour when you place your mouse pointer over it without using java script?

Frontpage allows you to insert a 'Hover button' that is java and can change the text background or forecolor on mouseover. It requires no programming, only inputing the paramters into a dialog box.

doing the Front Page thing would be worse since you need to load the java class...it would take forever for a simple effect.

Another option is CSS (cascading style sheets). CSS would be relitivly easy, and what you would have to do is put something like...in your head tags.

color: --Color you want it to be--

That should change the color to whatever color when the mouse goes over the links in your webpage.

The CSS works but only in IE not netscape.
I have a simple navigation menu in text which i would like to change colour in both IE and Netscape when the mouse is over the text.
any ideas??

There is a script at www.javascripts.com which should do what you need. It is under the "text" section and I think it's called "Netscape Rollover 1.1" or something to that effect.

You can not change a page dynamically with out using either CSS or some sort of scripting technology. HTML is static, was designed to be Static and always will be static. In the future with XML and XHTML you might find some dynamic functionality but I really doubt it as that would complicate the technology and make it unstable and buggy.

If you want dynamic effects such as rollovers, faders and such on your webpage your much better off using Javascript or CSS pseudo-classes to achieve this. Java Applets are too cumbersome for the general web population at this time to be used for simple effects such as rollovers.
