    Keeping Track of Your Sites

I donít have any sites that can lie neglected for a long time. Maybe six months at most. And that is only a very few.

What systems do you use to remind you to check up, update, do whatever should be done to your sites after you go past the first dozen?

A calendar would work as well.

I think this could be a good thread to think about what needs to be added to a spreadsheet to keep up with your sites.

Here is what I use to keep a mental picture of my sites. I sorta of look at it and come up with a to-do list in the morning whenever I have a littleextra time to work on my websites.

Some simple project management software like Basecamp would help. It's what I use.

That is the only thing that has really come to mind.

    Thanks,

    Richard,

What categories do you feel are important to have readily available at a glance? I'm going to tweak my spreadsheet a little more.

Really, all that occurred to me was sorting the last time I updated my sites by date.

But I do discover new ways to enhance my .htaccess file, minimize content theft, diminish bandwidth usage (not the issue it was a couple of years ago) so there's more than simply making sure the home page is fresh.

And I had a data feed site that I meant to keep search engines out of after Christmas. I forgot about it and Google flat out banned it. If I'd remembered I could've saved it. Now I'll be lucky if I can sell the domain.

    Why did Google ban it?

    What site is it?

I linked four affiliate marketing scripts together to create a "shopping" site in time for Christmas. That worked out fine. But I'd meant to block search engine bots from looking it as soon as the Xmas shopping season ended but forgot about it. About a month ago I looked at it to find it doesn't appear in Google at all.

The domain is bestgiftsguide.com. Now parked at NameDrive and earning me a very small amount because Yahoo! and Ask still have it in their indexes.

Had I been more careful I could've probably used it again this Xmas.

I'm quite new to this kind of stuff... memory used to be my best guide, but I guess it's the wrong tool to rely upon... so far Excel has proven to be the best help (I haven't checked out other software resources though)... I have a simple spreadsheet which I update as and when I update my websites...

Unfortunately, I'd be satisfied if I can check them automatically as well as it tells me what amount of money it has made in the past month, week or whatever... and I'd like a comparison chart with the previous months perhaps... that'd be interesting, yeah!

Probably that's kind of too much to wish for, but I think I can make it if I can gather some softwares which can do parts of these, and link them together to give me the complete output to a webpage or whatever...
