I have an image on my web page that does not seem to show up on aol 4.0 browsers very well. The background image has that same problem. What can I do to edit the image to make it show up well? I would like to retain as much of the details of the image as much as possible.
The images are:

and

America Online has a great little feature that all of us webmasters just LOVE. It's called graphics compression.
If this feature is turned on (which it is, by default) AOL compresses some of the graphics on the web site and the turnout isn't pleasant at times, to say the least.
Colors can be mixed, blurred, pixellated, and God only knows what else.
Note: This doesn't happen to every web site and every graphic, just some of the larger ones (byte wise).
This could be what is happening with your graphic(s).
Another possiblity is that AOL 4.0 does NOT work very well with IE 4.x. There have been numerous reports of browser crashes, AOL crashes (surprise, surprise), and other misc. related problems.
Thus, it is very likely that this could be a side effect of their not so great interaction.
I hope that you get your graphics working right and I hope that this helps!
Regards.

If you are using Photoshop 4 or 5 you can open your graphics in another web editor like paint shop pro and just resave them. There is a problem in those versions of Photoshop that causes graphics to behave weirdly in AOL's modified version of Internet Explorer 4.0 (the version shipped with AOL 4.0).

Actually that didn't really help. I was fooled because aol and ie both use the same cache so i though I had the problem solved. Here what i found so far. I have tried resaving my images with other programs and browsers and even re-making my background image in MGI Photosuite but aol still distorts the images. When I am logged onto aol, the aol browser will load up the two images as .art format. Netscape seems to load them up fine even when i am logged into aol account. It doesn't seem to be any of my aol settings. Any new suggestions.
