get current URL?

is there a way i can get the current (relative) url in the broswer?

so say a page is on www.domain.com/folder/file.php it would return folder/file.php

i need to do this so that i can return a user to the previous page they were at after they login.

return_location = site_location.substring(site_location.indexOf('/'), site_location.length);

i didnt realise it was pssible with php..it would actually be alot easier if i could do it with php because then i could just plug it right in...so how would i do it with php?
