Feel free to post reasons for, or reasons against operating systems below.

This is purely out of curiosity. I am currently running Win XP Pro.

Win '98 @ home. Win 2k and Linux Red Hat 7.1 @ work.
I voted Linux becuase I am currently spending most time on it (learning, setting up, configuring, swearing at it etc*.).
I've always fancied getting more familiar with it and frankly, after the frustrations, it rocks!

    Win2k - so far it's excellent!

Used 98se- it was pure frustration.

    I want to try Linux.

    XP- not sure...

You've got to be kidding, win 3.1 ?

I dual boot XP Pro / Mandrake 8, so I'll vote Linux on this one.

Win2k here, after a frustrating first few months on 98.

I'd love to move to Linux, but I'm still waiting on the Linux port of Dreamweaver

Well, too bad Macromedia now owns a patent on the very concept of Wysiwyg editors. You're unlikely to see a free, opensource, wysiwyg on Linux anymore.
There is still Quanta though (haven't tried it yet), which I heard is capable of CSS1&2.

Had to vote Linux as my Win2k system is momentarily decommisioned. This is actually a good thing since it's forcing me to learn how to get things done using Linux.

That would be nice. I am resorting to using Windows for development until I can find a decent solution. I might just have to use Notepad. Oh well, not the first time.

Anyone know of any HTML editors for Linux. Any graphics programs (preferably vecotr-based) for Linux? GIMP, is it any good? GIMP Tutorials?

HMmm..maybe I will start a new thread with my questions instead....

I'm currently looking into Kontour (vector grfx) for Linux, and as for html editors, I'm using "Advanced Editor" which comes with KDE. It has syntax hightlighting for C, C++, Objective-C, Java, HTML, Bash, Modula 2, Ada, Pascal, Python, Perl, Sather, Latex & IDL (don't know what half of those are!). I'm a fan of php editor and would like to see a linux equivelent.

    I like win98
    Reason: Should it be mentioned????
I like linux too but the only problem faced by it is , that its not as easy as win to run nor easy to install.
It will take time for me to get over linux.

The installation is not that difficult anymore. They have actually got a lot better over the years. I remember trying about 3 years ago and it took forever to get it set up and running X windows. But now, its all pretty much automated like Windows

As for running it, any new software can be confusing until you learn how to use it! Remember trying to use Word or Excel for the first time?

I like the idea of Linux, but it is just not very feasible for a wide audience at the moment.

Kylix will rock the world of Linux and make it much more accessible to those of limited abilities.

    What is Kylix?

I agree, Linux is not really aimed at the mainstream, more at power users and administrators. But some people like it that way and others don't. I think once there is major software support, the MS tyranny will be overthrown.
