    Sharing a Modem

Is it possible to share a modem over an ethernet network. I am networking two PCs with a crossover cable and was wondering if I could set one up to use the other's modem since ISP is AOL.

You could use Internet Connection Sharing if you're on Win98 or above.

A better solution is to use a proxy server though. A popular free one is from AnalogX

To clarify hillsy's answer, Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is included with Win98 Second Edition (SE) or higher only. The original Win98 didn't have it.

Another free proxy server is SOHO Connection, from http://www.servlet.com. I used it for a while before I bought my DSL router. It's java-based, and it works fairly well. It routes some protocols that others don't.
