    Best Free packages ?

Knowing absolutely nothing when i first started building this site i used OpenOffice to create my pages as it was the only thing i had on my pc that i could use. I use bravenet for hosting and FTP.

When i upload my pages my pictures disappear so i then have to use bravenet online visual editor to insert pictures and then their HTML editor to add any more coding i needed along the way.

I only have basic HTML and CSS knowledge but this is taking a lifetime to develop my site and as i use the bravenet editors i then cant download then through the ftp again and re-edit with openoffice as it doesnt recognise things i have changed with the bravenet editors.

Also the bravenet Eitors mess up all my tags and rearrange them so that is causing further problems.

I have been searching for ages to find the right packages to use whereby i can download my current pages through FTP and amend them including adding pictures and EVERYTHING, so i do not have to use the bravenet editors at all.

Can anyone advise me of the best free software to use for this please.

I use HTML-kit which is free. Also you could look at Notepad 2, Crimson Editor, Notetab Light.

You may want to look into NVU, a free WYSIWYG html editor. It is almost like a stripped-down version of Dreamweaver. Their web site is: www.nvu.com

or for real basics use notepad for html and css and explorer for FTP.
Technology is dominated by two types of people:
those who understand what they do not manage,
and those who manage what they do not understand.

I used to use an editor called 1st page. You can find it here, there is a free and a pay version. http://www.evrsoft.com/ They claim over 3 million downloads. If you try it out I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it as it's been several years since I used it.

edit: I just checked and the new version is free also, no pay version. I'd definately try iy out.
