    Address finder

    Dear All,

I have a registration form and for the address section all I want the users to be able to do is input there house/flat number and their post code and when they click submit the address will automatically be found. How do I go about doing this?

    Regards

The third result seems to do what you want. There are a lot of other similar services out there too.

    Cool

I think it's easier and simpler to have the user fill out the full address.

    Easier and simpler for whom?
A developers #1 concern should be for his end-users.

Getting to the point where you want to save the time it takes the user to type his address, that seems like over-simplification...

You should find the balanced point where your work is productive and your users don't get fed-up with your web site

As a user of many websites that involve typing in addresses, I fully appreciate it when a company has gone to lengths - whether great or small - to make life easier for me.

Of course, if you are a small site with little focus on addresses, it may not be worth it.

Obviously you never dealt with international registrations, where are you going to simplify for users outside the UK, or even the EU? Isn't it simpler and consistent to have a city, address, postcode and country fields or one big textarea to let the user type the correct way to ship items and letters to him?

Any site developer knows it's better to simplify something like checkout or payment processing, than the user typing its address.

I do support my view that it's a waste of time to simplify something like that. But enough is enough

Well obviously it's different if your covering more than one country. But if you can do, do do

    thanks for the help.

The link provided has a restriction to 5 searches per IP address.

I am assuming there is no free postcode finder available allowing multiple searches ie unlimited.

I am just adding in additional functionaility to a site i'm developing and thought this may be helpful as I like sites which don't demand you to input your whole address into the form.
