Hey all,
I found this tool that does domain name appraisals, and wanted to know if it was accurate at all. The tool is located at http://www.leapfish.com/analyze.php. I was hoping I could get an honest assessment of how well this tool estimates value.
No, these appraisals are WAY overblown. Type in a random string of charachters and it will appraise it at above $1000 (actual value). Its hard to find a domain worth less than that.
at6hdj-l is appraised at $1,536. Even the $96 base price is overpriced.
Hmmm, not sure about this - I entered my newly-purchased domain name, computingforall.net and it came up with $1000+. Not sure, but I don;t think thats what I could get for it
An intesting tool, more entertaining than anything. I wouldn't take their figures to be accurate though. I agree that they are too overpriced in general. The concepts are there, but the itangibles like market trends are hard to integrate into a system like that.
Stick with a well-known appraisal company if you are serious about buying or selling a domain.
Definitely a tool for fun use, nothing more. The appraisals it makes are a joke.
In my opinion, domain appraisals are useless. Roughly, if it's a developed site, you'd pay between 12 to 18 months worth of income, but there's a lot of room for playing with this.

Definitely just a toy. The figures will be way off- any accurate domain appraisal is hard to find as there are so many dynamic factors linked to its value. A Domain worth nothing to one person could be priceless to the next, and vice versa. Go to a forum like namepros and get some 'human' appraisals for free. They will be likely more accurate than a machine that has broken the value down into elements that are too basic.
Yepp. Just a gimmick. But it's quite fun to use. It's a smart way for them to bring in some visitors (I've seen links to it in a couple of other places as well).

That formula is bogus.
Combined Value Score = CVS
Estimated Base Value= EBV
Estimated Actual Value= EAV
CVS= A,BCD
A=Lower Extreme
B=Lower Quartile
C=Upper Quartile
D=Upper Extreme
( Add the numbers of all The factors that make up the CVS and then find these points. Basically make a stem and leaf plot with them. Heres the example for google.com)
