No, I use a lower resolution because of my bad vision!
No, I use a higher resolution!
Yes, I use it, because I want to see what the crowd sees!
Yes, I always used it, cause I like it!
Yes... but why, I don't know!

I agree with this 100%. I made the mistake once of not following the 800x600 rule and went to a clients office to do some on-site training. What a mess!!Originally posted by Karl
The simple fact is that most of the users on the net now are families that aren't all that computer savvy, they bought their PC a while back, plugged it in and its worked since - it's not broke so why get a new montior so you can view the odd web site designed by someone who obviously wasn't worth paying (No offence to anyone in here who does design for higher resolutions only - but if you can't keep up with trends in the business then it's not a good sign). I personally design for 800x600, meaning that I use a width of 750 pixels on the page which makes sure it fits in all the browsers without having to fiddle with page margins etc.
Also i know for a fact many of my family fall into the category above, plug in the PC it works, 4 years later they still haven't changed a thing.
I always design for 800x600 and up, a lot of ppl still use that res,
judging by my website traffic its the 2nd most popular resoluation behind 1024x768 so its definately a bad idea to ignore it. in my opinion![]()

We seem to be going around in circles here
So, this is what we have discovered:
(the facts)
-A wide range of users still browse at 800x600
-A large number of users also browse at 1024x768.
Now, from this,
If people upgrade at the current rate as is happening now, it could be 2-4 years before we can really start phasing out the 800x600 resolution.
AND
Many moniters are not capable of these resolutions, therefore it is not a simple point and click as it was to comvert to 800x600 FROM 640x480 (for many users).
SO
At this point in time, the 800x600 resolution should definatly be designed for.
