Address resolution or normalization?
I have a task where I'm supposed to take a table of addresses and normalize them (make all the prefixes, suffixes, street types, etc consistent). I was about to get crackin but I figured that there are probably tons of similar scripts or functions that people have written before. I know most geocoding programs have functions like this built in. I dont need the geocoding aspect, just the normalizing feature. Can anybody point me in the right direction, or tell me what the proper terminology is for what I'm looking for?
Here's an example of what I need to do:
Convert addresses like this:
5961 ISLA VERDE AVENUE 360 SAINT ANTOINE STREET OUEST 220 BLOOR ST WEST 225 FRONT STREET WEST 3315 PEACHTREE ROAD NE 701 CONGRESS AVE.
5961 ISLA VERDE AVE 360 SAINT ANTOINE ST W 220 BLOOR ST W 225 FRONT ST W 3315 PEACHTREE RD NE 701 CONGRESS AVE

all i can say is you need to be very carefull doing something like this or you risk ruining certain addresses.
