im using the 'collapsible 3 column layout' from cross-browser.com, i get everything laid out nicley but what i want is a nav bar created in fireworks to sit in the navAlpha div, i have ensured the graphic dose not alter the dimensions of the containing div...

My problem is this, the toggle buttons work before i put the graphic in, however both toggle buttons do not work after incertion...

Is this simply because the javascript can only collapse text not images? Please help, im very new to javascript...

Here is some code...

css..

/* 3 col flanking menus */
body {
background-image:url(images/nav_background.jpg);
background-repeat:repeat;

background-color: #333333;
border:1px solid #990000;
}
#header {
height: 100px;
padding: 5px 0px 5px 15px;
margin-bottom:10px;
}

#footer {

}
/* All the content boxes belong to the content class. */
.content {
position:relative; /* Position is declared "relative" to gain control of stacking order (z-index). */
width:auto;
min-width:120px;
margin:0px 210px 20px 170px;
padding:10px;
z-index:3; /* This allows the content to overlap the right menu in narrow windows in good browsers. */
}

#navAlpha {
position:absolute;
width:150px;
top:123px;
left:0px;
padding:10px;

Thanks to Tantek Celik for the hack and to Eric Costello for publicizing it.
IE5/Win incorrectly parses the "\"}"" value, prematurely closing the style
declaration. The incorrect IE5/Win value is above, while the correct value is

voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family:inherit;
width:128px;
}
/* I've heard this called the "be nice to Opera 5" rule. Basically, it feeds correct
length values to user agents that exhibit the parsing error exploited above yet get
the CSS box model right and understand the CSS2 parent-child selector. ALWAYS include
a "be nice to Opera 5" rule every time you use the Tantek Celik hack (above). */
body>#navAlpha {width:128px;}

#navBeta {
position:absolute;
width:190px;
top:122px;
right:0px;
padding:10px;
z-index:1;
/* Again, the ugly brilliant hack. */
voice-family: "\"}\"";
voice-family:inherit;
width:168px;
}
/* Again, "be nice to Opera 5". */
body>#navBeta {width:168px;}

some javascript used on load....

var enabled = false;
var alphaVisible = true;
var betaVisible = true;

window.onload = function()
{
var e = xGetElementById('navAlpha');
if (e && xDef(e.style) && document.getElementsByTagName) {
enabled = true;
}
}

function toggleAlpha()
{
if (!enabled) return;
var d, m, e, a, i;
if (alphaVisible) {
d = 'none';
m = '0px';
}
else {
d = 'block';
m = '170px';
}
e = xGetElementById('navAlpha');
e.style.display = d;
a = xGetElementsByClassName('content');
for (i = 0; i < a.length; ++i) {
a[i].style.marginLeft = m;
}
alphaVisible = !alphaVisible;
}

function toggleBeta()
{
if (!enabled) return;
var d, m, e, a, i;
if (betaVisible) {
d = 'none';
m = '0px';
}
else {
d = 'block';
m = '210px';
}
e = xGetElementById('navBeta');
e.style.display = d;
a = xGetElementsByClassName('content');
for (i = 0; i < a.length; ++i) {
a[i].style.marginRight = m;
}
betaVisible = !betaVisible;
}
