    Red face Web browser caching

    Is there any negative effects concerning search engine optimization, when you prevent a web browser from caching.

    Thank you

    Can't say I can think of any serious negatives.

    This is a PHP question how exactly?

    PHP script

    PHP Code:
    header ('Expires: Mon, 23 April 2006 05:00:00 GMT');
    header ('Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate');
    header ('Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0'FALSE);
    header ('Pragma: no-cache');
    To prevent the browsers caching i want to use this php script.
    I would just like to know if there is any negatives when it comes to preventing the browsers caching.

    Ultimately this is not a PHP question - those PHP header() commands simply send HTTP headers to the client browser/search bot.

    I can't answer your question other than my first reply. Maybe someone else will jump in now and offer additional comments?

    I don't know if google will cache your site and if you want it to. but what are the reasons for not wanting browsers to cache your site. For people with pda's/phones/laptops(travelling) connections it can be very annoying if a page doesnt cache because they have to pay for data.

    Some of our clients sites need a lot of updates on thier pages (daily to weekly updates), and most clients and users dont usaully understand about refreshing pages, and why they are not able to view changes right away. With every update we remined them about refreshing their site.
