    Page layout

    Hi,

Is it better to have your pages left aligned or centred, or doesn't it matter?

    Just wondered.

    thx

It really depends on user preference. Right alignment isn't standard, however there are a few sites that really use right-alignment to their advantage.

Left or Center alignment is really a matter of preference; simply whatever you think look better. The design really influences I think.

I tend to avoid centering things. As a designer I think it only looks good in a few cases. Centered text is ugly when the lines are all different lengths and there's not very much of it. I'd recommend sticking with left-alignment unless there's a good reason for centering the page. When the whole thing is contained within a border and that's centered it looks all right. Still, inside that i'd keep everything left-aligned with the possible exception of a left-side text-based navigation bar, which I like right-aligned.
Avoid horizontal scrollbars at all costs.

I think centering only looks good if you center a table with text inside that is aligned to the left. I tend to do that frequently that way it looks good but doesn't have different line lengths.

In my opinion, pages look best centered. A good example is www.sitepoint.com

mmm, i too think pages look good centered. However they can look good left aligned also. As for right, i'm not sure about that one... It depends on your layout. I assume your are asking advice because you want to know how to align YOUR webpage.

Ohh, I thought the question was whether it was better to have the text centered, right aligned, etc.

As for page layout...I prefer center, and I think it looks best centered.

I think if you align a main element, like the main body of a page (via a table), it would be best to keep it center aligned. All other elemnts are better aligned to the right.
