making a PDF

Hello,
I know there is a way to create a PDF in php using some library. I am pretty new to it and I was just wondering exactly how that works. Can I create a PDF from an uplodaded word document? can I write a program that takes multiple documents like, 2 word files, an HTML file, and another PDF and combine them into one giant PDF?

I tried this out a couple of years ago; it worked but I didn't need it: http://www.fpdf.org/

Searching google for "php pdf" comes up with 218,000,000 results !

do a search for:
fpdf
html2fpdf
fpdi (to make a larger pdf with several smaller ones)
ufpdf (unicode support for fpdf - not completely compatible with html2fpdf but I've managed to get it to work)

If you can't get the info you need on these pages feel free to ask and here again and maybe I'll be able to help you.
The word files I'm not sure how to solve though.... Maybe you can use http://doc2pdf.sourceforge.net/ but that seems to use a webservice and not something you run locally.
