    Server Side JavaScript vs VBScript

What is the general feeling on using JavaScript for server side code? I really like the look and feel of JavaScript over VB and think using the same language on both the server and client could be smart.

I rarely see ASP scripts written in JavaScript and find this strange since any Web developer worth his salt will know some JavaScript. Other than that are there any real good reasons to avoid doing this?

Practically, none. The development time is likely to be longer for JScrip over VBScript though.

One interesting fact is that JScript is faster than VBScript.

marginally, most likely because it doesn't use variant datatype variables...

For certain operations, it is much faster. I can't remember where I saw the report, but one of the aforementioned operations is regular expressions.

    Really, why so?

I had seen this report, Four Guys or 15 Seconds. The results were hotly contested but if I remember right in the end every test held up.

I just like the object based model much better and it is nicer to work with the same language all around.

There are more built in functions for VBScript, and VBScript is also arguably simpler.
