ways of getting new business.. please share ideas

Myself and my partner have been running our own web design agency for a few months now..

The majority of our business has come from client referells, which is what we expected..

However it is clear one cannot rely on that..

We are sending out targetted letters (30-40 a week) to potential customers and then following them up with phones calls to see if we can be of interest to them. I have to say the success of this is quite low..

    What other ways are there?

We are looking to advertise locally soon, but obviously are trying to minimise costs to the absolute minimum..

    So... Any ideas or hints?

    Yes

    Yes!

I would strongly suggest you have a look at http://www.elance.com . if you spend
3 hours a week. i could say that you will be worked off your butt.

    http://www.elance.com

I am not sure if it is still free, but i would still give it a go

I have had good success advertising in a local free newpaper. The smaller Business Card ads were inexpensive. It seems alot of people pick up those free entertainment, local type papers. Check the rates in there. Alot of small business, home business type people read them in my area.

There are a million things you can do to help generate leads:
    • Join your local Chamber of Commerce
    • Sponsor Chamber and other local events such as "early bird breakfasts" and "after hours" events.
    • Cold-Calling - read some articles on it. There are proven ways to do it and be successful.
    • Advertise in newspapers and other local periodicals
    • Sign up with online talent farms like Elance and WebProsNow
    • Press Releases are a good way to spread the word... there are a lot of resources online you can find.

    Good luck!
