    how do i run a program from a website?

    How would i run a program when clicking on a button in a website. For instance....
    i click on a link or button and i want to make it run .. outlook express....

    i tried to put in the
    href="c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe"

    and a download pop up appears.....
    how would i make this work without the download pop up.

    Well, to be honest, there IS no way to do what you're wanting.

    Operating Systems define file types. Those file types are associated with certain applications (programs). You can only cause a program to open when you offer the user a file that particular program is associated with.

    BUT, the problem is that different people's computers have different software and the combination of the software and the files on their computer create a mess of file types and associations that basically render useless any attempt to open a certain application with a specific file.

    Yeah, this isn't really a good thing for a webmaster to be able to do. You (in general, not meaning Shredder) could easily put a virus program on your website, link to it, and then cover up the link so it looks like it's going to somewhere else.

    Someone clicks on that link, next thing they know their Windows folder is being deleted. I know I wouldn't want to be in their shoes...
