Where can I buy targeted traffic?
Besides the PPC engines, where can I buy targeted traffic on the cheap. We use some portals and web properties, and they generate good traffic for us. We want more!

Burstmedia is probably the best place to buy targetted traffic. They have over 2000 niche websites in their network.
However they only deal in large buys (which is unfortunate and seemingly counterproductive)
You might want to still use them as a starting point. Browse their gallery and then contact the webmasters directly. Whereas I don't think Burst will accept any buy less than $5000. An individual person would.
of course if you've got that much to spend then ignore my advice.Chris Beasley - I publish content and ecommerce sites.

I wish I had $5000 to spend. It's more like $500
Thanks for the tip, Aspen.

Well, honestly I don't want to advertise. I want traffic. I don't really care where it comes from as long as it is targeted.
I think of advertising (on the net) as more of a branding tool because the results sure do stink!
We get our best results from search engines, honestly. We do a lot of PPC and paid inclusion, plus optimizing our pages for keywords. A lot of the traffic we buy is also from search engines, the only bad thing is its not residual. I got our site up to 5000 uniques a day by using doorways and SEO, but I seem to be hitting a plateau. Plus, I've had problems with Inktomi giving me inconsistent results.
I am only one person, so you can imagine how much work goes into optimizing over 400 pages every month. Ugh!
