    The Final global.asa battle

Okay, all..here it goes. There's oftentimes been discussion about the pros and cons of using global.asa to do anything. I'd like this to be a poll where members support their oppinions with facts. If you don't use it, what's your better alternative?

Just interested in people's oppinions. I'd like this to be the 'end all be all' of global.asa discussions so that we may all reference other users to it.

    Happy debating.

    Yeah, like that will happen.

I voted "Only sparingly and when required (1 or two variables)".

I use it to track uniquie visitors, and keep count of how many is online. Thats it. Because of the security risks with the global.asa, I usually use a seperate database from the main content one.

    Security risks? Elaborate.

See, these are the kind of things I want to be discussed. What security risks are associated with global.asa?

Many people find advantages in that you can easily use Session and Application variables to keep track of certain things (what those things are depends on the case at hand).

You can still use session and application level variables without global.asa you just don't run them within the context of session_onstart, etc.

    You can just test it:

    on one page: session("asdf")="asdf"
    on another page: response.write session("asdf")

Links? Naw, I just read and test and write and test This accounts for a lot of my weird coding styles, but essentially if someone shows me better I do it that way

D, nevermind, I knew what you were talking about, just was a little slow and confused for a post or so.

So then doing it in this method (not in Session_onStart) is okay/better?
