    Where were you?

Where were you when you found out and how did you find out? Past generations remember where they were when JFK was assassinated, and remember where they were when they saw the first man on the moon. I think that this generation will always remember exactly where they were when they found out.

I remember that right before 1st hour ended, at about 9:00, our school went into lockdown mode, for about 5 minutes. I was surprised that they didn't say it was a drill, but they didn't say that it wasn't. When I got to my second hour class, the principal came on the PA and said something about planes and the WTC. I couldn't hear really well. They turned on the tv, and I saw a rerun of the second plane hitting WTC 2, while the other tower was already burning. Then in a few minutes someone said that the pentagon had been hit too. And then the reporter said that there was another hijacked plane. And the reporters were making theories of where the plane might be heading.

On Highway 8, just East of the Highway 15 off-ramp, just West of the Montezuma turn off in San Diego. I was listening to Howard Stern at the time. I thought it was a joke so I tried another station. It wasn't a joke.

I was watching a late night (in Australia) current affairs TV show - Lateline, and it was going on about the Tampa refugee thing and the Ansett thing then my brother (who was on a local IRC channel) started going on about some attack on the US. "Yeah right" I said, "we would have heard about it", we were watching the news no less. After trying to get to Yahoo and just about any other news site you care to mention I started to think something had indeed happend. About a minute later that's all there was on TV.

    The end.

I was sleeping.....totally oblivious to it all. But come morning and the news......whammy!!!!

I actually put the TV on and what I saw was totally unbelievable. Surely this isn't happening...April fool's joke....(no, not April) Hollywood movie.....no.....It blew me away that this could happen. I watched the constant replays for the next two days, of the the planes impact and the buildings just disintegrating!

Dumbfounded! So many lives lost.....so many escaped the towering infernos....wow!

I was at a conference in France, I heard about it straight away because this girl I was with got a phone call from a close friend in NY who said his wife was out shopping and he was really worried about her. I didn't get to see it on TV though till the following Saturday as I did not have access to one. It didn't really sink in till I saw it on TV.

I was at home... I woke up and my Mom told me that my Dad just called and said something happened to the World Trade Center. So I turned on the TV and watched as both of them fell live.

I was in traffic on my way to work. The folks on the radio are usually joking around and they mentioned a plane had crashed into the WTC. At the time everyone seemed to have the impression it was just a minor accident involving a small craft. I just thought, Wow.. Someone must have had a hell of hangover. Soon after there were reports that it was an airliner. When I arrived at work there was no one around, someone had a radio on and I caught a statement about the Pentagon being hit. At that point I was really wondering what was going on, tried all the news sites and couldn't reach anything. I went down to the cafeteria to try and catch the news on TV and that's where everyone else was. We all went home shortly after that.

I was at the office. I was reloading General Chat because it was around 3 or 4pm and I was bored, and I saw that topic "plane ctashing into WTC" by TheOriginalH and then I forgot to look at it. And some minutes later I looked at it, already more replies, and when I reloaded there was a second plane, and another reload brought the Pentagon...
It was really weird, because I craved to know more, and craved to share the info with the coworkers, but since officially I'm not allowed to surf the net, I had to shut up. So I shut up for hours before going back home, and then I still shut up because my cats wouldn't understand

    You lucky ones sleeping.

I was already at the end of my second period of school. Heard the news and will always remember where I was when I heard it. We are only 45 miles from New York City, so people in my school had parents in the area, making the situation even more stressful and hectic. I skipped lunch and went straight to the library/media center where they had CBS on the big screen, watch the buildings burn... but not fall down live.

At work. The receptionist in our other office called to say a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers. I tried to get to a news site but they were all bogged down by then. Someone found a radio and by then they were reporting the second crash. And I was thinking..it's almost like it was deliberate..well, duh! After that it was almost a blur..the Pentagon, the towers collapsing, the crash in PA.

A friend I saw this weekend was at home and had news on TV once the first crash happened, and by the time the second one happened news crews were there so she saw the second crash as it happened...saw the plane approach and heard the yelling and screams in the newsrooms.

I was having breakfast, and just happened to switch on the TV to see the second plane strike the trade center live. I remember hearing people screaming in the background. I thought at first that it was an accident..until I saw that both towers had been hit. After that I was absolutely glued to the screen..I watched the towers fall live and saw another live shot of the smoke in Washington DC, which would eventually point to the Pentagon. Never in my life have I ever felt such a sickening shock as I did that day.

I was at school. We had all heard about the first plane in morning advisory but no one really knew anything else. After first period, some classes got to watch the TV -- mine included. We finally went back to class, but we didn't really do much since everyone was scared.

My mom came in during 3rd period to take me home. So, I spent the rest of the day at home, mostly on SlashNET's #coverage and #kuro5hin discussing the attacks.

I was starting my morning as usual, talking to my sister online, drinking my coffee. She told me to turn on the tv (I never watch tv during the day), that WTC 1 had just been hit by a plane. I remember saying "yeah right" as I thought she was pulling one of her usual smart @L# stunts.
I was stunned. I couldn't believe what I was seeing....the second plane hitting WTC 2. Then shortly after that, hearing the news of the crash at the Pentagon, and yet another plane was unaccounted for.
I will never forget the time, my surroundings, the feeling of dread and the fear. And the fact that my sister (who lives in another country) told me to turn on my television to watch an event that was taking place in my own "back yard". It all seems so unreal even now.

I was sleeping. First my boyfriend's mom called and left a message telling me to get up and call her immediately, and then, seconds later, he called and told me to get up and turn on the news. I figured something important must have happened, so I stumbled out of bed and began what was the first of three straight days of nothing but news.

My TV wasn't on when I received a phone call from my daughter who lives about 20 blocks from the WTC. She was crying hysterically and asked if I knew what was happening. It seemed like forever before the TV picture came into focus. It took a few more seconds for my mind to comprehend what was happening. She had already gone to the roof of her apartment building where she could see the towers before calling me. As we talked, the first, then the second tower fell. We stayed on the phone and cried together knowing that in that instant peoples lives were ending. She could have watched it live from her roof but, she and I remained connected by phone as we watched the horror unfold on TV. It never occurred to either of us that the towers would fall.

Thinking back, it is fortunate that I found out what was happening from a phone call from my daughter. Otherwise, I would have been frantic wondering if she might have been near the WTC at the time.

I was in these forums when i found out (bout Midnight aus time when it happened) my mum receives phone calls all night about the money market, she walked in and said a planes just flewn into the world trade center... first thought was "Only in america, could somebody fly a plane into a 110 storey building" i got off sitepoint, went and watched the tv and procedded to witness the second plane fly into the second tower, now that somewhat made me think about my previouse statement, as it definatly was no accident... i posted a few messages in the forums about what was happening, as several people could not access a TV, being at work, and most of the news sites were somewhat slow (to say the least, they were near non existant) i watched the flames burning, and i said to my mum, there is going to be more then these 2 planes, sure enough 15 minutes latter a plane hit the pentagon. half an hour to an hour after that the plane crashed in pensilvania (i had said to mum there would be 4-5 planes).

What was my reasoning for thinking there would be more planes? i still dont really know, i guess i just figured that if you can plan to hijack 2 planes, and hit twin towers within a 15 minute period then you obviously have to be pretty p***ed off and you arent really going to stop at 2 buildings... Thats my story

I was sleeping, my alarm went off at 5:30am as it always does and i heard the typically lame breakfast crew talking about planes and wtc then i heard the word terrorist and pentagon and probably some other words but i cant remember the details that well(you know as you do when you are half awake).
At that i went and turned on my tv and saw it...

I'd been feeling unwell at work and went home at lunchtime. I was about to hop into bed and watch a David Attenborough wildlife video. I turned on the telly (about a minute after the second plane hit) to see, well, you know.

Well, I had been taking a day off from work for personal reasons (without pay) and just dawdling around doing nothing in particular (playing games to be honest) when my wife called, rather frazzled.

At the time I was more concerned for her, and didn't really pay any attention when she said a plane crashed, I mean it's just another plane crash to me... Little did I know.

I went back to my gaming and the server I was playing on (halflife) started posting news updates, which was when I realised that something more then a minor crash had happened.

Radio on, kept playing the game (I took over running the news updates for the server). As it became more serious my playing slowed and my newsupdates increased... Eventually I turned the game off and just listened to the news.

When they diverted 500 planes to Canada (250 to Toronto, where I live) I was one of the first (of 25000) to offer our home for people to stay in...

To be honest, that was the hardest part of Canada not being mentioned in Bush's speech... It wasn't that he was an *** for not mentioning us, but that we were prepared to take in thousands, that when there were planes that needed escorting that you guys thought had terrorists we let them into our skies, etc...

Sorry for ranting... Just found out halfway through this post my grandmother is expected to die in the next 10 days
