    CTR stats

Does anyone know where I can get some CTR statistics? I am interested in promoting a site, and I am trying to run some numbers on what it will cost to get visitors to the site. I am interested in "average" CTR for various ads and industries.

Well, that's almost impossible to answer I'd say 0.3%-1% for 468x60, 2% for skyscrapers, and, hmm, 0.1 for small buttons. depends how targeted your campaign is.

It depends highly on how targetted your ad is and how well designed your ad is. The simple fact is that some ads get higher CTRs than others.

I too would be interested in seeing some case studies of the CTR of various ads.

There are various net ratings companies that collect statistics about online advertising.
http://www.nielsen-netratings.com/ is one. They don't have much info that is of use to me. Who has statistics?

Obviously if you are asking people to shoot 3 ducks or something then you will have a higher CTR, but the traffic will not be very targeted. I wonder if this is still better than having a banner saying the equivalent of "Click here for web hosting" or something like that. I'm not sure which is better, but I'm thinking the targeted banner ad would yield better results overall. What do you think?

I have found http://adres.internet.com/advertising/0,1401,0,00.html to be a wonderful resource for these sort of statistics.

Yes, it would, but I am interested in planning based on average numbers before I waste any money on ads. It would be nice if people would publish their CTR information to this thread.

Well the highest CTR ads I've seen are those flashing message boxes "You have 1 message waiting"

    They get about 5-8% CTR

And what kind of ad it is does not change if the traffic is targetted.

If you advertise on a targetted site then the visitors will be targetted, if you advertise on an untargetted site then the visitors will be untargetted. If you're running a targetted ad on an untargetted site then you're wasting your money (assuming its a CPM ad) if its a CPC ad then the publisher is wasting their banner space (if they even run it)

Also you should atleast have something in the ad that says what you offer

so instead of "1 message waiting" change it to whatever you offer on your site.
