    search engine submit questions please help

    The company I work for recently developed a web site. We would like to submit this site to search engines but want to get some feedback as to the best way to do this. Please let us know your experiences with automatic submission services. Thanks

    Best to do it manually. It takes all of 5 minutes.

    I agree. People tend to get better results by hand submitting (at least they say they do ). Just bookmark the "Add A URL" pages and you should have all the majors done in under 5 minutes. That is, if you dont have too many domain names to promote!

    I would also suggest submitting to any industry related directories or search engines. You may not get great traffic in terms of quantity, but the quality will be superb.

    Just keep in mind that listing does not equal ranking. If your site is not optimized, or poorly optimized, your site will never be found.

    Pay careful attention to submitting to the directories. If you botch these submissions, you are in trouble. If you pay for submission to Yahoo or LookSmart, don't hesitate to email the editor if the description does not include your primary keyword phrases.

    With the search engines, don't try to "trick" them by using underhanded techniques like hidden text, etc. They WILL catch this.
