Yes, I am sure that you need the commas. There is a maximum number of key words but I can't remember what the number is.

Here is a good on-line meta tag generator you could try

    Use the commas.

Also, even though the keyword limit is high you should still limit your self to say 15-20 words max. After that your listing can become "diluted".

you could also try using keyword phrases too seperated by a comma but don't use a space after the comma.

Another thought is to use a description of 150-200 words as part of the meta tags and also include a good descriptive title

Try this guy as I found him very useful as I am also trying to brush up my ranking skills

If the phrases include some of the same words it's possible some engines might see that as spamming and hurt your ranking.

good point should have mentioned that, I think though as long as you don't have more than 5 repeats throughout your meta tags, keywords, descriptions and title your okay. And also that they all are real to your site, you will be okay. Also don't they look at density of words i.e. number of times its written on your site? not sure about that one.

If you use the same words several times on your site, that could also be seen by the Search Engine as spamming, so try and include some variety in your phrases.

There was a time, long ago, when you could make your text the same color as your background, and clutter it with keywords.. but I wouldn't try that now..the SE's are on to the trick
