Question please examine my FULLTEXT query

    hi all,

can someone help me find out what's wrong with my FULLTEXT query..
    SELECT LPAD( applicant_id, 8, '0' ) AS id, first_name, last_name, email, city, date_submitted, score, assessment_level, assessment_score, (applicant_id) as myid FROM equad_applicants WHERE MATCH ( `applicant_id` ,
    `date_submitted` ,
    `first_name` ,
    `last_name` ,
    `nationality` ,
    `email` ,
    `city` ,
    `company_name` ,
    `title` ,
    `college_name1` ,
    `awards1` ,
`assessment_level`) AGAINST ('delaware') ORDER BY id desc
example: i tried to search the city 'Quezon'...yes it has results.
but when i try to search the word 'Delaware' it doesn't display any result and yet i know there's a lots of entry with a city 'Delaware'.

also, is it ok to search the word 'yahoo' to find any entry with email account of yahoo.

any ideas, what's wrong with my query or the structure of my db..?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

first of all, why are you searching for an empty string?

secondly, do you actually have a fulltext index defined on all those columns?

finally, do you ever expect to search for some (portion of a) name and actually find it in the applicant_id or date_submitted columns????
