I cannot recommend you any training courses, but I can tell you how I started with PHP and MySQL. I read a tutorial by Kevin Yank, Building your own database driven website using PHP and MySQL, on SitePoint and started of right away. That was more than half a year ago. Right now, I have bought the book that has been released for a few months now, and it has been a great help to me ever since.

Even if you are going to do training courses, the book is useful documentation material to have around.

Yup yup, the book is definately a superb place to get going. You will find some ready made tutorials on Sitepoint , as well as a multitude of other sites around the web. Try a few of them, get a feel for the language and then get a good book!

MySql by Dubois is a great companion to have around when you develop, but Kevin's book is probably the best I've seen for teaching you the ropes - and leading you to more advanced issues.

A good introduction to all can be found

    ways to learn:
    - get a book (i started with Beginning PHP4 from Wrox Press)
    - read online tutorials from places like right here (www.webmasterbase.com), www.devshed.com, www.phpbuilder.com
    - lurk in this forum! and start posting when you've questions
    - practice (as opposed to just reading code)

Yup, get a copy of Kev's book and lurk in these forums. I went from knowing absolutely nothing, to knowing a little more than nothing

I can't tell you how helpful and friendly the community is we got here. They are great

One bit of advice, at least try to search the forums before you ask the same question as 200 other ppl
