    Would something like this work?

Just the other day a friend and I were having a discussion about something in local rumors. He then forwarded me an email that his company gets. That isn't the interesting part....
The file was a PDF file that was laid out like a daily newspaper and about three pages. Now the thing is that you need to subscibe for the daily file to be sent to you. The cost was $.40 per day.

Now, for a basic question. Would this work? If I were to create a newsletter of some sort that would be a daily PDF file that look nice, easily printed and original content would it sell? I personally think that the price is somewhat high, but say you had 1000 subscribers at $.25 or more subscribers at $.10 - that may be a good little cash flow...

    Thoughts?

You wouldn't do it quite like that...

You'd do like 2.50$/month or something. Or 20$/year.

Thus, 1000 subscribers (probably not that hard to get) on a decent subject that you are both knowledgeable about and have the skill to write would net you some money

It would work, but I wouldn't call it a newsletter then...

Check www.visualartstrends.com, they do a Quarterly State of the Industry Report (I'm featured in the one about to come out ) which is incredibly useful and they charge 20$/year (ish).

That will give you an idea of what people expect for 20$/year. They want something informative, useful, that they can recommend to their friends. Also, having an option to have it printed and sent to them, and burned onto CD and sent to them would increase sales and provide other venues for advertising (bundle software, etc on the CD).

hmm, some excellent ideas! a quarterly/yearly CD sent out surely could be a good idea. I know that the place locally offers to fax it off to people, but I really don't want to stand in front of a fax machine for hours a day sending them off .

That links doesn't seem to work. Even after I took the comma out... will look again later.

Just noticed also that we are both Canadians! We certainly seem to think alike.

    WHOO CANADA

If you need a hand, give me a shout and I'll see what we can put together in terms of Acrobat convergence, writers, CD copying, etc because you certainly don't want to stand over your CD-RW for 56 hours every month

Give it a go later... I believe that site and www.designers-network.com are both on the same server, and TDN is down as well

Now it is just a matter of coming up with a good topic... I have an idea - but the market could be too saturated already .

The best topic would be something that you are knowledgeable of.
