    Credit Card Info

I just need some quick information.

Can you store credit card information online in a database, if its on a secure server. And if so, is there a set time its allowed to remaine there

    thanks, I'm new to this.

    dhtmlgod,

While many companies do store CC info in their database servers, I would recommend against it unless you are 110% confident in your database security. If you do end up storing this information, I would make it clear to your users so they can make an informed decision about whether to shop at your site.

Regarding it being a secure server...this really does not matter. A secure server simply encrypts information as it is passed from the server to browser during a request, it does nothing to encrypt the actual database or text files as they reside on the server.

    Hope that helped a little.

Why do you feel the need to stole CC info online? What functionality of your site requires it?

I guess if he's operating a policy of not debiting the cards before goods are shipped, then he'd need to store the numbers, wouldn't he?

Hi all, by the way - my first post here! :P

Many carts can be set to encrypt and email the CC info rather than store it on line. And even stored online you cna often set it to create a file that can be downloaded then deleted.

Online storage is more of a security risk.
