Some graphics please

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on developing some custom graphics for my VB board, doing the graphics themselves are not a problem, apart from two main things

Size, i need to know how to compress the size of .jpg's without loosing too much quality.
format, I can never get small text to look good.
I'm using PSP7.

    thank you.

for the small text, you should be using a font such as sevenet 7 or silkscreen, which are designed for display at less than 10pt. also, you'll have to save the small text as a .gif file for better display.

for .jpg files, i usually compress mine to 30%, anything less than that will get fairly blurry. i don't know how to do it in psp7, but you should just be able to just "save as" a .jpg and from there, you'll have some options as to the quality (expressed in a percentage).

Thank you for the tips, I know where the compression in php7 is, so 30% it is

Regarding the fonts, do you know where I can get them from? are they the ones used for the VB images do you know?

i don't know if they're the fonts used for the vb graphics... i'll just send them to you and you can play with them and see if they work for you.

    Small text

Don't use image files for small text. Just create a new layer and place HTML or CSS type over a background image. It will be way sharper than image type!

This sounds like a good idea, it wuold make the page load up quicker as well, the only problem that I've got is that I don't know how to do layers, could you provide me with some sample code please?

A little size reducing tip for jpg's

Use a blur on the whole image, it makes the size of the image smaller because of the compression algorythem.

I think I might skip layers for the moment, from what I understand all the browsers use diffrent tags for them, and I don't need anything that complex.

    Fireworks

if you know anyone who posses a copy of macromedia firwork they will do it for you as it is an exrmely simple task to do and the results are wut impressive (in terms of the size of the image begn reduced and if you know what you are doing tyou will be able to loose very little quality in the graphic)
