Painting Effect in Photoshop... fun friendly competition!

I wanted to try something out... I've been trying to get as close to a painting manipulation/effect with filters and combination of them on multiple layers... can anyone get closet than this? I want to see what you can do with the original as well so I have included it Let me see what you can do! And if you can, please list how you did it as well I can't remember how I got this one Except I know I did use another 3rd party plugin. I brushed up alot with a wacom too like hair strands etc

I was really hoping someone was up for your challenge, as I would love to know how to do this myself. I was thinking it would be a great change for our traditional family photos on our Christmas Cards

    Hi,

Did you ever figure out where you got this third party effect from? It looks great, and I would love to be able to do something similar. Anyone else out there has any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

You can try someting like this:
Open your pic filter>artistic>cutout and use the following settings
    Cutout
    Nber of levels: 8
    Edge Simplicity: 1
    Edge Fidelity: 3

or try other artistic options instead of cutout

Here's my entry. Came to this side of the fence after seeing a cross-post by conRadical.

Couldn't resist a quick break working with one of my three favorite actresses.

It was created with but a a very minimum of brush work, mostly from strategic erasures of a layered overlay, an a bit of masking in the hair for direct application of a couple of filters.
The rest was accomplished with application of several layers, mixing those with a couple different 'blend' modes for enriching the color, and a few applications of blur more, Gaussian, and SmartBlur on individual layers.

A fun exercise that for the most part delivers a 'painterly effect'. Time elapsed: About 30 minutes.

    (font used: Hurricane and HurricaneSwash)

    Warm Regards from Miamisburg, Ohio

Nice work snoflake. One of the more realistic "painterly" attempts done so far. Can you briefly describe the steps you took?

You will have to play around with the following, I tend to mess around until I get it right.

    Copy image
    Set brightness and contras
    Copy again
    Set water colour painting
    Fade over first copy
    Merge
    Add Spot light
    Fade Spotlight

    I hope it helps.

I found that it helps to fade some filter effects to make it look more natural. Light always helps to liven things up.

If all else fails, play with the settings.

you can just play around with duplicated image layers and filters to get a realistic or non realistic paint effect

I spoke earlier of my three favorite actresses...

here's a photoshop image i created back in march of 2005 when i came up with the idea of putting them together in a movie about 3 daughters of a leader of a mafia family.

storyline has them in the following occupations:
    • jessica alba is a master-thief
    • angela jolie as a gold shield detective
    • ashley judd as a district attorney
after their father went to prison for racketering when they were all younger, each of the mobster's daughters chose their own path. when they learn their autistic brother was murdered, they decide they become "familia" again to avenge their brother's killing.

but enough of that, i never found the backing, but i had fun making this collage.

Thought I would give it a go.

Done this by vectorising in freehand then exporting to a jpeg, put it in photoshop, add a film grain effect then stick it on a canvas.
