Search Engine Lists?

I have been testing Submission software over the last several days. I think they all leave much to be desired. Seems to me that they all fail too often.

Consequently, I want to list my site by hand to all the engines and directories. Is there a list somewhere of all the BEST places to submit? I've heard/read various reports suggesting that it's best to start with some sites rather than others. Does anyone here know of a list that compiles all this information?

Try http://www.allsearchengines.com to start with. I also have several lists of specialized search engines if anyone is interested.

Yahoo costs $299 to submit a business site to. Looksmart also charges $299. Google is still free.

If memory serves, AOL and MSN (possibly Netscape) search results are derived from the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org)

Submit to dmoz, and don't bother with AOL and MSN, you'll just be re-submitting!

According to the most recent Search Engine Alliances Chart (SearchEngineWatch.com), MSN gets its main results from its editors and Looksmart. The secondary results are from Inktomi and the top 10 are from Direct Hit. MSN is the default search engine for Internet Explorer which is why it is so heavily used.

Open Directory powers AOL Search, Netscape Search, and Lycos. Its directory listings show up at DirectHit HotBot and Google. If you go to Dmoz and look it up, you can find all the smaller search engines that ODP powers and there are a lot of them!!
