As you can see, I like nature wallpapers and I am a desktop minimalist, with the exception of my Quick Launch bar. I am using desktop icon text transparency, as well.

    Here's my current one:
    http://www.steel-sun.com/extras/t/now.jpg
(I reduced the size, actually at 1280x1024)
It's an image I put together from a picture of the Spirit of St Louis I took this summer in DC and a terrain I generated and modified with Terragen.

Yesterday I changed my BG (I usually change about once a week), last week was this one:
    http://www.steel-sun.com/extras/t/last.jpg

Next week will be something else strange, unless my wife puts one of her weird ones on first.
(Last time, she took a picture of me with our digital camera while I was asleep on the couch with my mouth wide open, she added fuzzy sheep and Z's above my head)

Here's my latest, typical appearance when i'm trying to do to much at one time. If you think that's crowded, you shouldn't see my desk.

My desktop (I like it really clean and simple, no clutter)

    http://www.netinnovated.com/design/graphics/desktop.jpg

I use a freeware called Hidden Menu for my shortcuts, it doesn't take up ANY space on my screen unless I am using it. It just hides in one corner of my screen by the clock, no system tray icon or anything:

My goodness! Most of you people are designers. How can you design and judge hue, saturation, colour, brightness and contrast with all that visual noise in the background?

You want a nice neutral background - have a look at this:
    http://neaturl.com/temp/dt.gif

Remember, that's a mac screenshot - so it will apear more saturated and darker on windoze - I forgot to compensate for win gamma when converting to gif.

My desktop is just somewhere I drag and drop stuff temporarily for quick access before it gets sorted out into its proper place (often the trash).

Configuring things and fiddling drives me nuts. I think I've changed a setting from default once in my life.

PS: I notice that Aes has requested Linux desktops:

I definitely agree. I could never stand some of the b/gs that some people have had. Especially Sparkies! Don't get me wrong, it's very cool, but I think it's too hard to see icons and things on the b/g. Exactly why I used little miss britney spears in my b/g: www.help4newbies.com/images/DESKTOP.gif

He used to be modeled after Sonic..but now he has sort of evolved. I still like to give him the same spunky attitude though.

I dont even own Sonice Adv. 2 or a dreamcast for that matter, but I thought the wallpaper was neat..so I downloaded that and the screensaver from the official site (That other character in the background is named Shadow, I think..)

    I'm using WindowBlinds from stardock.com.

The theme is from Dangeruss, he makes some really impressive work.

    http://www.dangeruss-industries.com/...emes=SolidEdge

There are plenty of wallpapers that work well, I think the one that comes with the theme is good too. The one i'm using is from the movie series Dark Angel, she's cute, it worked nice with the theme.

If you like this stuff, you should also check out.
