can you be a bit more specific about what you are looking for? or provide a few example? i think some examples would be most helpful.

i can give you examples
look up the rhymes for pearl and get: girl, furl, curl, burl, squirrel, ...
look up the synonyms for hefty and get: large, chunky, heavy, massive, ...
bartb wants to know where to obtain a database containing that type of data

thanks rudy, i already know how to rhyme.
last time i got asked this question at work, what the person actually wanted was a stemming algorithm so that relational becomes relate and operator becomes operate. they didn't know what a word stem or root is, so they called it a synonym.

Couldn't this be done with a sort of hierarchical database design?
Such as pearl rhymes with girl which rhymes with furl and so on... So you would only need to hold one record of the word that it rhymes with?

Just want a database. Someone searches a synonym for "buy" and the search engine finds "lie, pie" and so on.
Iīve got good ideas, but just canīt do something like this
