    Selecting text

    Sorry to have to come back but my thread went cold and I am still going round the houses on this one.

    My site requires that visitors can copy bits of text from the pages. I'm converting my site to CSS layout and I am using Layers. I find that when dragging to block parts of text with the text cursor - i.e. arbitrary pairs of words for instance the cursor 'skids' over some words or blocks the whole of a layer, etc. Individual words and sentences can still be selected, by double-clicking for instance, but dragging is unpredictable. Disabling the Doctype 'cures' the problem but then the pages are quirky. I am using IE6.

    Below is a (much cut down) example.

    This is a known issue with IE6 in Standards mode and absolutely positioned elements. One workaround is to add something (a comment, extra blank lines, whatever) before the DOCTYPE declaration, but that also has the effect of triggering Quirks mode rendering in IE6 which has its own CSS issues.

    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    #layer1{
    margin:100px 0 0 100px;
    height:300px;
    width:700px;

    }
    .dynamic-style-3a {
