    Storing images in SQL server

    Hi,

Is it a good idea to store images in SQL server? Will load times be slow, the database too big, etc...?

If anyone's got suggestions, my ears are wide open...

    Thanks!

It's rarely a good idea. In general it's much easier and more efficient to store the names of image files in a varchar field in the database, and then (assuming they are intended for display on a Web page) use ASP to generate an appropriate IMG tag. Of course it depends what you want to do, but I haven't yet found a situation where this method wasn't appropriate.

veronicay's right. BLOBs will generally impact performance.
