    Browser Title Bar Says: About Blank

    Strange thing, at least to me.

    I'm using Chili!Soft ASP on a Cobalt RAQ4 Linux box to connect, via a DSN, to a MySQL database on the same box.

    I am using include functions to fill in header and footer. When the page loads, the title bar correctly displays the title of the page (after being pulled from a database) but then as the page continues to load, the title disappears from the title bar and it displays "About Blank". However, the page seems to have otherwise loaded entirely correct.

    Sample from this page....
    <!-- Include Header-->
    <!-- Header contains DSN connection to database -->
    <!--#include virtual="/ruz/templates/gym/header.inc.asp"-->
    <!-- Include template file which determines theme -->
    <!--#include file="inc-template-vars.asp"-->
    <!-- Body of page (html code) is below -->
    blah, blah, blah, blah
    blah, blah, blah, etc....
    <!-- Include Footer-->
    <!--#include virtual="/ruz/templates/gym/footer.inc.asp"-->

    As far as I can tell, my code for the include pages all meshes, ex.... header.inc.asp contains opening <html><head><title><body> tags and the file, footer.inc.asp includes the correct closing tags.

    Maybe one of you ASP gurus have run across this before. If so, please clue me in as this seems quite odd.

    Regards,
    Bill

    Additional Info...

    The browser in which this phenomenon is happening is IE 5.50.4134.0600IC

    Netscape 4.72 has no problem, it seems, displaying the correct title in the title bar.

    if the header inlude file has "<html><head><title><body>" in it, then of course the title is going to be blank. If you want to set a title, you going to have to do this

    Code:
    <html><head><title>enter title here</title><body>

    Thanks for your help, but that's not the problem.

    The title in the header include file is populated from a database.

    ---- Begin Code Excerpt ----
    <% Set OPTtitle = Connect.Execute(_
    "SELECT * FROM title")
    do until OPTtitle.EOF
    %>

    <% DIM Company_Name
    %>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title><%=OPTtitle("Company_Name")%> Online Help Desk</title>
    </head>
    <% OPTtitle.MoveNext
    loop %>

    ---- End Code Excerpt ----
    The funny thing is, it works in Netscape, and even works sometimes in IE. But most of the time, the title flashes for a couple of seconds in the title bar and then is replaced with "About Blank".

    Go figure.

    Thanks,
    BILL
